Stress / anxiety

In the current economic climate more and more people are feeling under pressure at work and then taking this pressure home with them. Almost everyone experiences stress or anxiety at some time in their life and while this is tolerable in short bursts, over prolonged periods it can be extremely damaging to your well being.

According to research carried out  in February 2010 by YouGov on behalf of the mental health charity Together (www.together-uk.org)  62% of people in Britain (71% of women, 52% of men) have had at least one time in their life when they have found it difficult to cope with the effects of stress (70%), anxiety (59%) and depression (55%).

Reactions to stress can vary from person to person but they can be physical, psychological or behavioural. The prolonged production of adrenaline can be very wearing and lead to a reduction in your body's normal resistance to illness which explains why people suffering from the results of stress often struggle to shake off colds etc. There may also be  a tendency to lose concentration, become frustrated with routine tasks or to constantly harbour negative thoughts.

Anxiety and depression can result in people isolating themselves and trying to cover up or ignore what is happening to them rather than seek help. They may withdraw from their normal social activities or drink more alcohol than usual in an effort to raise their spirits, neither of which is particularly useful.

Hypnosis will help you relax and adopt a more positive outlook. It will help you to recover these relaxed feelings whenever you experience stress or anxiety. I can also teach you breathing techniques which can reduce tension as it arises.
