Confidence
Some people suffer a lack of confidence when contemplating a specific event such as speaking in public in a formal setting, for example at a wedding or making a presentation in front of work colleagues. Others may constantly carry negative self perceptions around with them which impact on their daily life.
No-one is born lacking in confidence - it develops over time as a result of our perceptions of our past experiences and our interpretation of these events. This affects our view of ourselves and our capabilities. In the example of someone preparing to speak in public, the lack of confidence may be down to either being out of a comfort zone as they have never spoken in public before or it may be down to their interpretation of how previous presentations or speeches have been received by others. Chronic low confidence may even be the result of constant negative feedback from a third party. Either way, a lack of confidence can lead to negative thinking (which can be self-fulfilling) and also produce physical symptoms similar to those seen in people experiencing panic attacks such as sharp, shallow breathing, headaches, palpitations etc.
For those who routinely suffer feelings of low confidence in their daily lives the effects can be severe, leading to constant negative thinking, even depression, and will have a detrimental effect on relationships, home life and performance at work. These feelings may be a result of a specific event which has damaged confidence or even a lack of a support network which can help to reinforce a more positive outlook.
The good news is that you can free yourself from this state of affairs! Very few people will go through life never having felt confident at some time. Confidence is a state of mind which fluctuates, sometimes by the hour – we can all think of some days when we are raring to go and others when we may be fearful of what the day has in store for us. Hypnotherapy and NLP can teach you to relax and combat the physical effects while also tackling the causes of your low self confidence leading to long term changes in your perception and your reaction to any triggers which may cause you to doubt yourself.
I can help you to prepare for any one-off events which are causing you concern or help to relieve the effects of chronic low self confidence.
